Its an adventurous excitment that builds up within you when you load the pick-up full of dogs and drive out in the bush. We took the whole pack with us down to one of the dams the other day to see if it started to fill up with any water yet.
We have 3 dams at the farms where i live and normaly at this time of year the one we went to is full, but no nothing yet. Its the worst drought here in 46 years and last year they didnt get much rain either.

The ground, the bottom of the dam was dry enough for the dogs to play around on. In the deepest place we found one tiny mud puddle. Mud is normaly fun but i think it was the high, green and wet grass this day that the dogs got most excited about.
It was a complete joy to see them running around, playing with eachother, playing in the mud, jumping in the high grass and chasing the wind.
FREEDOM!

This was Akilahs and Chelseas second time on the back of the truck (pick-up, they call it truck here) and they did very well. Chelsea is not super impressed going by car and Akilah get a bit suspicous but after a while you can see the excitment in her and she was all over the place. Running from side to side at the back looking out at the bush, ears standing right up. I was also standing in the back there and looking ahead on the road.
.
.
Suddenly she jumps up beside me and land on top of the roof of the car, surfing her way forward. Gaaaaahhh…”mother instincts” grabbed her overflow of skin around her shoulders and pulled her back down again. MONKEY DOG, thats what we call her. Crazy, energetic and super athletic.
.
Important to get Akilah and Chelsea used to the cars as well. When living like this you really dont have to take your dogs anywhere except from going to the vet and that is thank god not often so far so they never get to practise going by car. But according to the few times so far they are both doing very well.
We defenitely need to do things like this more often – even “mummy” thought THIS WAS FUN!
